A Different Kind Of Coffee Break At Evernote HQ

overextracted:

What started as a way to boost teamwork and transparency through communal caffeination has turned into something of an office obsession. There are no specially hired baristas on staff at Evernote’s tastefully appointed coffee bar, because the Evernote staff are baristas themselves. They’ve gone through a minimum of four hours of training to learn the ins and outs of their La Marzocco Strada MP, and the coffee they’re making from it is surprisingly good. Like professionally good, but with a creative business twist unlike anything I’ve ever seen…

Happy 2014!

Happy New Year! We are going to be starting off 2014 right with a special event next Monday at Thee Red Fez! Nuova Simonelli and Interamerican Coffee are putting on a all day work shop for East Coast competitors for the upcoming#bigeastern barista competition. At night we will be opening up to the public and doing a special Competition Cappuccino Throwdown! Each competitor will be pulling shots of Equal Exchanges Queen Bee Espresso. You will need to steam milk and pour for 2 capps at once. You will be judged on criteria that the USBC uses to judge capps. Consistency, foam depth, latte art, etc will all be judged! This is a great event for all. It will also be a great resource for anyone who may want to compete in the future! Spread the word!

First Ever Providence Aeropress Championship!

The Providence Coffee Society is proud to present the first annual Providence Aeropress Championship! Taking a page from the book of many other coffee enthusiasts, the PCS will be holding its first-ever Aeropress competition on Wednesday, May 30th! Our competitors will slug it out using the unique brewing device to determine our top dog; each brew will be judged by a panel of 3 top-notch tasters, grading it on Acidity, Body, Flavor and Overall Impression. Each competitor is welcome to bring their own coffee (for the first round!) and choice of Aeropress filter - a grinder and hot water source will be provided. Spectators welcome and encouraged!

Full rules can be found here!

Watch this space and the PCS Facebook page for more information!

Are you a prospective competitor? Send us an email with your name, the coffee you intend to use, and your Aeropress recipe to providence.coffee.society@gmail.com !

As always, the PCS is grateful to our ongoing sponsors; La Marzocco, New Harvest Coffee Roasters, and Rhody Fresh Milk!

Peregrine is awesome! If you’re ever in DC, they’re an easy trip via car or metro - plus you can buy fresh fruit and assorted tchotchkes at the Eastern Market steps from their door! Future competitors: watch closely!

Also: Tulip Tuesday next week!
